492-Series Wind Compensation System
The primary function of the HOBBS 492-Series Wind Compensation System is to reduce or eliminate water loss due to the spray blown from the pool. This is achieved by reducing the height of the spray and/or turning the pump off. HOBBS 492-Series wind compensation system panels are solid state and provide an L.E.D. digital readout of the actual wind velocity in miles per hour (mph). The panel has two stages, each with dial-adjustable wind velocity actuation points, “auto-off-manual” function switch and a “high wind” pilot light to indicate stage actuation. The wind compensation system panel is available in two versions: (1) Pre-mounted in a clear cover, carbonate and phenolic resin enclosure (HOBBS #492-13), or (2) a panel/door mount (HOBBS #492-14) typically used in conjunction with a HOBBS Custom Control Panel. Stage one is generally used to reduce the water effect height in moderate wind conditions, and stage two is used to deactivate the fountain pump in high wind conditions. The sets of internal switches for the two stages are identical, but independent of each other; therefore, just one stage may be used with the other remaining as an alternate. There is a delay circuit built into the unit to read the wind speed after a stage is activated ( 90 seconds for the first stage and from 30 - 350 seconds for the second stage). If the wind velocity drops and stays below the setting on the dial for the designated reading interval, the stage will deactivate, allowing the fountain to resume normal operation. If the wind velocity stays above, or drops below then again exceeds the velocity setting during the full reading interval, the stage will remain activated and another reading interval will start. Consult a HOBBS Sales Engineer or Project Engineer if further assistance is needed in integrating the wind compensation system with the fountain.
